Protests in Karnataka over 8% bus fare hike

Bangalore
Bangalore, May 5: Karnataka BJP staged a protest against Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) for raising the bus fares by 8% over the weekend.

The KSRTC fare hike follows the 15 percent fare hike by BMTC (Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation). The corporation blamed that the increase was due to the increase in diesel prices.

The Karnataka government has faced protests drom the commuters also; However, chief minister Siddaramaiah said that the hike in bus fare was inevitable.

Travelling by road is costlier in Bangalore, with the toll fee for the in-bound lighter vehicles has increased from Rs 20 to Rs 75. Moreover, vehicles on a return trip will now have to pay up Rs 115, instead of Rs 30.
