Prostitution: Business tycoons scared of actress Shweta Basu, pressurise police?

Hyderabad, Oct 28: Month after her arrest, it has been reported that actress Shweta Basu might have been facing life threat as a few business tycoons are scared thinking their names may have been revealed in the prostitution case.

Times of India quoted sources as saying that there have been tremendous pressure on police and judiciary to release Shweta Basu from the remand room. She was lodged in the remand room following her arrest from a star hotel in Hyderabad.

The daily quoted the source as saying, "They (extremely influential people) are worried that if she is in the remand home for too long, out of their reach, she might reveal their names and put them in trouble. If she is outside, they may be able to prevail upon her to keep mum."

23-year-old Shweta along with many other high profile businessmen was arrested from a star hotel at Banjara Hills in Hyderabad.

Despite all hullabaloos after Shweta's arrest, police maintained complete silence while they were asked about identities of the businessmen involved in the case.

Citing police reaction, many had suspected that the arrested businessmen might have used their power and might have bribed the policemen. However, there were no confirmed reports about any involvement of corrupt officer(s) in the case so far.

The actress, after her arrest, claimed that many more heroines are into prostitution and it is very common for them. Shweta was also quoted as saying, "All the doors were closed and some people encouraged me to get into prostitution to earn money. I was helpless and with no option left to choose, I got involved in this act."

23-year-old Shweta had won national award for her Bollywood movie Makdee. She had also acted in several Hindi movies and TV serials, such as -- Iqbal, Kahani Ghar Ghari Ki, Karishma Ka Karishma and many more.
