Authorities Launch Probe into Allegations of Sikh Conversions to Christianity in Pilibhit

The district administration in Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, has started an investigation into claims of mass conversions of Sikhs to Christianity. This action follows a report from a Sikh organisation highlighting the issue. District Magistrate Sanjay Kumar Singh confirmed the investigation, stating, "A delegation of Sikhs met us on Friday alleging large-scale illegal conversion of Sikhs. I have directed the sub-divisional magistrate of Puranpur to look into the matter along with the district police."

Pilibhit Authorities Investigate Sikh Conversions

During a meeting on Friday, members of the All India Sikh Punjabi Welfare Council alleged that around 3,000 Sikhs had been converted to Christianity recently. They provided a list of 160 families they claim have undergone conversion. Harpal Singh Jaggi, part of the delegation, informed the media that Nepali pastors are allegedly forcing conversions through inducements.

Allegations and Investigation

Jaggi mentioned an event in February where 180 families reportedly reverted to Sikhism. He claimed that illegal conversions have been occurring in border villages since 2020. According to him, victims are enticed with pressure and false promises of healing ailments. On May 13, an FIR was filed at Hazara police station against eight named individuals and several unknown persons for illegal conversion activities.

The authorities are now tasked with verifying these allegations and taking appropriate action if necessary. The investigation aims to uncover the truth behind these claims and ensure justice for those affected. The involvement of local police alongside administrative officials underscores the seriousness with which this issue is being addressed.

This situation highlights ongoing concerns about religious conversions in certain regions. It raises questions about the methods used and the impact on community relations. The outcome of this probe could have significant implications for religious harmony in the area.
