Priyanka Gandhi Challenges BJP on Economic Growth and Public Prosperity
In a spirited critique of the current administration, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra questioned the tangible benefits of India's reported economic growth under the BJP-led government. During her inaugural Lok Sabha election rally in Punjab for Congress candidate Amar Singh at Fatehgarh Sahib, Gandhi voiced concerns over the disparity between the government's claims of prosperity and the ground reality faced by the populace.

Gandhi's discourse extended to a rally in Chandigarh, where she refuted allegations of the Congress being anti-Hindu. She emphasized that her party's ethos is deeply rooted in the principles of the Bhagavad Gita, advocating for truth, love, harmony, and non-violence. With the elections scheduled for June 1, she rallied support for Singh, highlighting critical issues such as unemployment, which she claims affects 70 crore young Indians, marking a 45-year high.
Addressing the audience in Fatehgarh Sahib, Gandhi raised poignant questions about the lack of job opportunities and increasing inflation despite claims of economic growth. She criticized the closure of steel factories and the weakening of industry due to the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST), questioning the absence of progress in people's lives.
Gandhi accused the BJP government of neglecting middle-class needs, stating that progress is only visible on television screens, not in real life. She lambasted the BJP for ignoring public issues like inflation, unemployment, women's safety in Punjab, and the drugs crisis. Instead, she accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of diverting attention with illogical statements and seeking votes on religious grounds.
Further criticism was directed at Modi for avoiding discussions on pressing national issues and attempting to destabilize elected governments in states like Himachal Pradesh. Gandhi also highlighted dubious financial transactions involving donations from companies under investigation by central agencies to the BJP, followed by a cessation of raids.
Without direct reference, Gandhi touched upon an FIR against Barjinder Singh Hamdard of Ajit Group of Newspapers related to alleged fund misappropriation in a memorial project. She urged the public to recognize the misleading tactics at both central and state levels.
At an all-women rally in Patiala, Gandhi addressed inflation and unemployment as critical concerns impacting women directly. She criticized Modi for portraying Congress as a threat to personal assets like buffaloes and jewellery, including mangalsutras. Defending her party's stance on religion, Gandhi invoked Mahatma Gandhi's legacy and his adherence to Bhagavad Gita's teachings to counter accusations of being anti-Hindu.
Gandhi's speeches across Punjab not only challenged the BJP's governance record but also sought to clarify Congress's position on religion and governance philosophy. With elections looming, her appeal to voter sentiment on employment, inflation, and safety issues aims to galvanize support for Congress candidates.
