Private Videos, Photos, Chats! WhatsApp To Roll Out New Privacy Feature Soon For Users Safety

Privacy could soon become stronger on WhatsApp as the messaging platform is reportedly testing a feature that deletes messages immediately after they are read. The upcoming option, referred to as "After Reading," aims to give users tighter control over how long their conversations remain visible.

According to details shared by WABetaInfo, the feature is currently under testing and allows users to send messages that vanish automatically once the recipient opens them. The idea is to reduce the digital footprint of sensitive chats and strengthen privacy between the sender and the receiver.

Designed to enhance message confidentiality

If introduced widely, the "After Reading" feature would allow users to send text messages that disappear the moment they are viewed. Unlike temporary messaging options that rely on timers, this feature removes the message instantly after it has been opened.

To activate it, users would simply select the "After Reading" option before sending the message. Once the recipient reads the message, it would automatically be deleted from the chat.

The feature could prove particularly useful when sharing personal details, confidential information or one-time instructions, as the content would not remain in the conversation history.

Different from disappearing messages

WhatsApp already provides a Disappearing Messages option, but that tool removes chats only after a pre-selected time period. Users can set messages to vanish after hours, days or weeks.

The proposed "After Reading" setting takes the concept further by ensuring the message disappears immediately after it has been seen, offering an additional layer of privacy.

Currently being tested

The feature has reportedly been spotted in the Android beta version 2.26.12.2, which means it is still in the experimental stage. Only a limited number of beta users currently have access while the company evaluates how it performs.

If the testing phase proceeds successfully, the privacy-focused feature could eventually be rolled out to users on both Android and iOS devices. As concerns about data security and digital privacy continue to grow, such tools could help users share information more safely while keeping conversations temporary.
