Priest Found Murdered at Suriyawa Temple After Reporting Repeated Thefts to Police

A 75-year-old priest was discovered murdered in his room at an ancient Hanuman temple in Suriyawa, with his throat slit. Police reported that several bells and donation boxes were missing from the temple. Four police officers, including the Station House Officer (SHO), have been suspended for allegedly ignoring the priest's repeated complaints about thefts and unruly gatherings at the temple.

Murder of Priest at Suriyawa Temple

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Tej Veer Singh stated that on Monday morning, worshippers found the priest, Sitaram, dead in his room. Sitaram had moved from Bihar around 30 years ago and was entrusted by locals to care for the temple and perform rituals. He had been residing on the temple premises since then.

Investigation and Police Actions

The crime scene was thoroughly examined by senior officials and a forensic team. The priest's body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. ASP Singh mentioned that the dried blood indicated the murder occurred several hours before discovery. A dedicated team is investigating the case to uncover further details.

Bhadohi's Superintendent of Police (SP), Meenakshi Katyayan, confirmed that Sitaram had frequently complained about thefts and anti-social gatherings at the temple. She highlighted gross negligence by SHO Brijesh Singh, sub-inspector Ram Dhani Yadav, and constables Manoj Singh and Ashok Yadav, leading to their suspension.

Community Concerns and Response

Local residents expressed concerns over repeated thefts of bells and donation boxes from the temple. They also noted the presence of unruly elements gathering near the temple premises. These issues were repeatedly reported by Sitaram to the authorities but were allegedly ignored.

In response to these events, five teams have been established to expedite solving this case. The community hopes for swift justice and improved security measures at the temple to prevent future incidents.

The investigation continues as authorities work to identify those responsible for this heinous crime. The local community remains vigilant, hoping for a resolution that ensures safety and respect for their sacred space.
