Prez Mukherjee cancels Kedarnath trip after heavy rain alert, bad weather
Dehradun, June 22: Heavy rain alert and bad weather led to the cancellation of President Pranab Mukherjee's visit to the Kedarnath shrine in Uttarakhand on Wednesday, (June 22).
The MeT department had also confirmed on June 20 that there might be heavy showers at many isolated parts of Uttarakhand.
According to reports, low visibility due to clouds led Rashtrapati Bhawan to call off the trip.
Bikram Singh, Director of the state meteorological centre also said that, "Rains have been lashing parts of Uttarakhand for the last couple of days. The rain activity is likely to increase from Monday onwards and will continue till at least June 24. Light to moderate rain is expected at Rudraprayag district and Kedar valley on June 22 as well."
A heavy rainfall alert was also issued by MeT department before Mukherjee's visit.
President of India's official Twitter account also confirmend the news and said: "Helicopter could not proceed to Kedarnath today due to bad weather, he is on his way back to Dehradun."

According to Mukherjee's schedule, he had planned to pay obeisance at the temple in Uttarakhand.
