Presidential election 2017 results: This is how counting takes place

India will know today who would be its next President. As counting is underway it would be interesting to take a look at how the process takes place. Counting will be held in over 8 rounds.

This is how the votes are counted:

• The Parliament box and 31 state and UT boxes will be counted. This would be done in 8 rounds.
• The ballot boxes are opened in alphabetical order.
• Result updates would be given every 2 hours.
• The final result will be announced between 5 and 6 pm.
• 54 MPs have voted this time in state headquarters.
• 4 MLAs have voted in a different state.
• 4 MLAs have voted in Parliament.
• These votes would be merged with the Parliament votes and the votes from the respective states.
