President Murmu, PM Modi Pay Homage To Jallianwala Bagh Massacre Victims
April 13, 1919 was the saddening day in the history of this country when Britishers killed more than a thousand people at Amritsar's Jallianwala Bagh. These innocents had come to a fate on the occasion of Baisakhi, and were trapped and killed by the Britishers. Many of them preferred jumping in a well, than being killed by an English bullet.
Remembering their sacrifice that ignited the freedom struggle, President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday paid homage to them.

In a post on microblogging site X, President Murmu said, "I pay my respectful tribute to all the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for Mother India in Jallianwala Bagh. Their sacrifice made the flow of our freedom struggle stronger. Grateful India will always remain indebted to them. I am confident that taking inspiration from those immortal martyrs, all the countrymen will continue to contribute to the progress of India with their whole body, mind, and wealth".
PM Narendra Modi also rememberedthe Jallianwala Bagh sacrifice, stating the massacre is a 'dark chapter in Indian history' but their sacrifice became a major point in India's freedom struggle'.
"We pay homage to the martyrs of Jallianwala Bagh. The coming generations will always remember their indomitable spirit. It was indeed a dark chapter in our nation's history. Their sacrifice became a major turning point in India's freedom struggle," PM Modi said in a post on X.
The British only reported 300 deaths, while in real thousands of people lost their lives including women and children. Britishers had called them all anti-government protesters, but in reality, they were harmless innocents. It was also claimed that a draconian Martial Law was imposed in the area, restricting all public gatherings, but those innocent were not ever aware of it.
