Neighbouring Countries' Leaders Attend Banquet Hosted by President Murmu
On a significant day marked by the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a historic third term, President Droupadi Murmu extended a warm welcome to leaders from neighbouring countries at a grand banquet held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. This gathering underscored the importance India places on its relationships with its neighbours and its commitment to the 'Neighborhood First' policy and SAGAR Vision for the Indian Ocean region.

The ceremony saw the attendance of an illustrious list of dignitaries, including the President of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe; the President of the Maldives, Mohamed Muizzu; the Vice President of Seychelles, Ahmed Afif; and the Prime Ministers of Bangladesh, Mauritius, Nepal, and Bhutan - Sheikh Hasina, Pravind Kumar Jugnauth along with his spouse Kobita Jugnauth, Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, and Tshering Tobgay, respectively. Their presence was not only a testament to their individual countries' relations with India but also highlighted the collective spirit of cooperation and friendship that prevails in the region.
During this notable event, President Murmu took the opportunity to express her best wishes to Prime Minister Modi as he embarked on his third term. She highlighted the composition of the new 72-member Union Council of Ministers, which notably blends continuity with a fresh infusion of youth and experience. This strategic combination is seen as a move to further strengthen the governance framework under Modi's leadership while also acknowledging the contributions of partners within the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government.
The president's address to the gathered leaders was a reflection of India's diplomatic ethos. By thanking them for their participation in the swearing-in ceremony, she not only celebrated the democratic process but also emphasized India's central role in fostering regional peace and prosperity. The leaders' attendance was portrayed as a strong endorsement of India's 'Neighborhood First' policy and its vision for the Indian Ocean region, known as SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region).
This event was more than just a ceremonial gathering; it was a reaffirmation of India's commitment to building and nurturing strong ties with its neighbours. Through such engagements, India aims to create a collaborative environment that promotes mutual progress and well-being. As these leaders returned to their respective countries, they carried with them the message of unity and cooperation that stands at the core of India's foreign policy objectives.
In essence, this banquet hosted by President Murmu was not only about celebrating Prime Minister Modi's new term but also about reinforcing India's dedication to its neighbours through dialogue and partnership. It served as a reminder that in an increasingly interconnected world, fostering strong regional relationships is key to achieving collective peace and prosperity.
