Prayagraj Traffic Update: Check Key Locations To Avoid & How Long Will Prayagraj Railway Station Remain Shut?

The ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 continues to attract millions of devotees from across India and beyond, with the crowd steadily increasing as the event progresses. The festival, which began on January 13 is expected to reach its peak during the final days, leading to worsened traffic conditions and challenges for both travellers and the local administration.

Praygraj Traffic Key Jam Locations

Prayagraj Traffic Update

The influx of devotees has caused major traffic jams at several key locations within Prayagraj. As per the KKN report, areas like Naini Bridge, Fafamau, and Jhunsi are experiencing severe bottlenecks, with traffic backed up for miles. Vehicles are getting stuck for long periods, causing significant delays.

To control the flow of traffic, district authorities have set up roadblocks at the borders of Prayagraj. This has led to a pile-up of vehicles in areas such as Andawan, Naini, Navabganj, and Hathigan, which are facing the heaviest congestion due to the large number of devotees trying to enter the city.

Prayagraj Foot Traffic Update

As road traffic has become paralysed in many parts of the city, many pilgrims have decided to walk to the Sangam for their ritualistic holy dip. The Sangam, where the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Sarasvati rivers meet, is the main focus of the Mahakumbh. Despite the inconvenience of heavy traffic, many devotees prefer walking, as it is faster than waiting in long vehicle queues.

The number of foot pilgrims arriving on foot continues to rise, with devotees braving long walks from the outskirts of the city to the banks of the Sangam.

Train Services Impacted

Train services at Prayagraj Sangam Railway Station have been severely impacted due to the growing crowds. Authorities have announced that the station will remain closed for services until February 28 to manage the surge in passengers and control the crowds effectively.

This closure is causing major disruptions to train travel, leaving passengers to find alternative transport options. Train delays and cancellations are widespread, with stations across the region in chaos due to the large number of people.

Special Trains For Maha Kumbh Mela 2025

To cope with the growing number of pilgrims, Indian Railways has introduced 300 special trains to transport people to and from Prayagraj. These trains are specifically designed for the Mahakumbh Mela and will operate throughout the event. However, despite the additional trains, delays and crowd-related issues persist at major stations, adding to the overall strain on travel during the Mela.

Security And Crowd Management

In response to the heavy traffic and crowds, security measures have been significantly enhanced. A large number of personnel from CRPF, RPF, GRP, and PAC are deployed throughout Prayagraj to manage the crowds. These forces are stationed at key points such as railway platforms, the Passenger Hall, and Foot Over Bridges (FOBs) to ensure the safety of devotees.

At Prayagraj Sangam, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) is especially vigilant, maintaining strict security to prevent any untoward incidents and ensuring smooth operations for the pilgrims.

As the Mahakumbh Mela 2025 continues, the local authorities and transport services are working tirelessly to manage the rising challenges and ensure that the pilgrims can enjoy the spiritual experience without further disruption.
