Prayagraj-Mirzapur Highway Accident: At Least 10 Maha Kumbh Devotees Killed, Many Injured

At least 10 devotees who were on the way to attend the Maha Kumbh, were killed in a tragic road accident on the Prayagraj-Mirzapur highway on Friday night.

"10 died as car carrying devotees from Chhattisgarh to Maha Kumbh collided with a bus. This accident took place on the Prayagraj-Mirzapur highway under PS Meja around midnight on Friday night. The bodies have been taken to Swaroop Rani Medical Hospital for post-mortem. Further process is still going on," ANI quoted DCP Yamunanagar, Vivek Chandra Yadav, in a tweet.

UP CM Yogi Express Condolence

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognizance of the road accident in Prayagraj district and expressed condolences to the bereaved families, his office said in a statement.

He directed the officials to immediately reach the spot and expedite the relief work and also directed the district administration officials to treat the injured properly. He also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured, the statement added.

Other Accidents

On Thursday, one pilgrim died and five others from Hyderabad were injured in an accident after their car collided with a truck at Balkonda in the Nizamabad district.

The deceased was identified as 25-year-old V Sampath Rana, a resident of Kongarakalan. P Ramesh, Chandrashekhar Chary, P Sai Vishal, V Srinivas and Rajinikanth were injured. They are from Uppuguda in Hyderabad.

Also, four people died and 10 injured after a Maha Kumbh-bound mini-bus rammed into a tractor-trailer on Wednesday in Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh. The incident occurred near Buxur turn.

The mini-bus was en route to Prayagraj and had 21 passengers. A few of them were on their way to attend the Maha Kumbh Mela.
