"Pray For My Mother's Well-Being...": Kejriwal To Supporters Ahead Of Surrender

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today said that he would surrender on Sunday at 3 pm as the interim bail granted to him by the Supreme Court in the liquor policy case comes to an end.

"The day after tomorrow, I will leave my house around 3 pm to surrender. We are fighting against tyranny, and if I have to sacrifice my life for the country, do not mourn," Kejriwal said in a press conference today.

The AAP chief said that his physical condition and health had significantly deteriorated during his 50-day imprisonment, resulting in ongoing health issues and weight loss.

"I was in jail for 50 days, and in those 50 days, I lost 6 kg... Even after being released, I have not regained my weight," he shared, adding that doctors are now concerned about his health.

Kejriwal stressed that despite all the challenges, his top priority shall always be the welfare of the people of Delhi. He said that initiatives and essential services like Mohalla clinics, women's free bus travel, free electricity, hospitals, free medicines shall continue without a break.

"Even though I won't be among you, do not worry. All your work will continue. I may not be with you physically, but your work will not stop," Kejriwal said.

Interestingly, the Delhi CM also made an emotional appeal to the people by involving the well-being of his aged parents in the plea.

"My parents are very old. If you pray for my mother daily, she will surely remain healthy," he said.

The Enforcement Directorate arrested Kejriwal on March 21 in a corruption case involving the now-scrapped Delhi liquor policy.

The ED believes that Kejriwal has played a major role in drafting the policy and sought bribes in return for liquor licenses. The probe agency has claimed that AAP received Rs 100 crore as kickbacks to fund its Punjab and Goa state election campaigns.

On the other hand, AAP and Kejriwal have refuted all the charges and called the latter's arrest a "political vendetta" right before the high-voltage Lok Sabha elections. Kejriwal's arrest also triggered a political slugfest between the ruling BJP and INDIA bloc.
