Prahar Janashakti Party Sets Sights on 20 Maharashtra Assembly Seats

In a strategic move ahead of the Maharashtra state polls scheduled for October, Prahar Janashakti Party (PJP) Chief Omprakash Kadu announced the party's ambition to contest 20 of the 288 assembly seats. The PJP, an ally within the Shiv Sena-BJP-NCP coalition, is evaluating its potential to run independently or in partnership with another political entity for these seats. This announcement underscores the party's intent to strengthen its political foothold in Maharashtra.

PJP Targets 20 Seats in Maharashtra

Kadu, who has previously served as a state minister, highlighted the party's robust position in these 20 constituencies, attributing it to a year-long groundwork. Despite being part of the ruling Mahayuti alliance, PJP's decision to field a candidate against BJP's Navneet Rana in the Amravati Lok Sabha seat earlier reflects its independent streak within the coalition. The party's strategy and potential alliances for the upcoming assembly elections remain under deliberation.

The PJP chief also revealed plans for a significant gathering of party workers in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, central Maharashtra, aimed at discussing and strategizing for the state polls. This conclave is expected to play a crucial role in finalizing the party's approach towards contesting the elections, either independently or through collaborations.

When questioned about his allegiance to the Mahayuti alliance, Kadu maintained a neutral stance, indicating that decisions regarding the party's participation in the alliance would be made in due course. The PJP currently holds two seats in the Maharashtra assembly. Kadu's political journey saw a pivotal moment in June 2022 when he was among the MLAs who shifted their support to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde during his revolt against Shiv Sena leadership, led by Uddhav Thackeray.

This move by the PJP and Omprakash Kadu is indicative of the dynamic and evolving nature of Maharashtra's political landscape as parties gear up for the forthcoming state elections. With strategic assessments and alliances in play, the PJP aims to carve a significant presence in the state assembly through these 20 constituencies.
