Pradyuman murder case: Everything that has happened so far

In a major twist to the Pradyuman murder case that jolted the nation and led to a comprehensive review of safety in schools, a Class 11 student was detained last evening for killing Pradyuman, who was found outside a toilet near his classroom with his throat slit on September 8.

CBI sources say that the decision to arrest the boy was taken last night. The source further said that the CCTV was the turning point in the case. The movement of the boy was found in the washroom where the murder took place.

From day one of the case, there have been various questions that have been raised about the manner in which the investigation has taken place.

• A seven-year old student of Gurgaon's Ryan International School was brutally murdered in the school's washroom, sparking protests by angry parents.
• Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has called the killing a "heinous crime."
• Gurgaon's Police Chief said the probe into the child's murder would be completed in seven days.
• Police take custody of Ashok Kumar, conductor of the bus that dropped Praduman to the bus. However, the child's parents don't believe this is true. Ashok Kumar's wife says he's being framed.
• The conductor confessed to murdering the boy during questioning by the Gurugram police.
• Kumar said he was attempting to sexually abuse Pradhyumn and added that he killed him for resisting. He was then sent to judicial custody.
• Gurugram police receive flak for tampering with the crime scene and allowing access to parents and media near the place where the crime took place.
• The victim's sister claimed there wasn't much security at the school. "Conductors enter the school without any hindrance," she said.
• On September 9, acting principal Neerja Batra is suspended and later demoted to the designation of a teacher and joins another branch of Ryan International school, the institute she has been associated with for over two decades.
• On September 22, the CBI took over the investigation of the case following the recommendation of Haryana government.
