Poster of 'Maharana Pratap Road' found pasted on signboard of Delhi's Akbar road
Aurangzeb Road and Race Course Road in New Delhi were renamed as Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Azad Road and Lok Kalyan Marg in 2015 and 2016, respectively.
There have been many demands for renaming some Delhi roads, which have been named after historical figures, in the past. On Wednesday (May 9), a poster was found pasted on the signboard of Central Delhi's Akbar Road which read 'Maharana Pratap Road. Today happens to be Rajput king Maharana Pratap's birth anniversary.
It is not yet known as to who was behind this act of pasting the poster. Police has reached the spot and removed the poster, said reports.
Many of such demands in the past were to rename roads which were named after Mughal kings.
Last year in May, a BJP leader wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding that Babar Road in the national capital be renamed after Lieutenant Umar Fayaz who was killed by militants in his home state of Jammu and Kashmir. In his letter, Tejinder Pal Bagga, of the Delhi BJP, had said renaming Babar Road after the army officer "will help in keeping his story alive ... as a reminder of how a young man laid down his life for the motherland."
Bagga said his demand had "nothing to do with history" though he contended that Babar "was an attacker".
