YSRCP and TDP Accuse Each Other of Post-Poll Violence in Andhra Pradesh

Post-election tensions have escalated in Andhra Pradesh, with leaders from the ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) and the opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) exchanging accusations over incidents of violence. The discord follows closely on the heels of the state's recent Lok Sabha and assembly elections, highlighting a fraught political atmosphere.

Post-Poll Clashes in Andhra Pradesh

On Tuesday, an attack on TDP's Chandragiri assembly candidate, P Venkata Mani Prasad Pulivarthi Nani, in Tirupati has ignited controversy. The incident occurred around 2:30 pm at Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam, with police suggesting that political rivalry might be the motive. Nani, who is currently in stable condition, was purportedly targeted by his political adversaries.

TDP's chief, N Chandrababu Naidu, took to social media to denounce the assault on Nani, attributing it to "YSRCP hooligans." He criticized the police for their alleged failure to safeguard opposition members and called for immediate action from the election commission.

In a counterclaim, YSRCP leader and Home Minister T Vanita reported violent acts by TDP affiliates against marginalized communities, accusing them of retaliatory violence against those who did not support TDP in the elections. She has urged for the prompt arrest of those involved in such activities.

Further incidents of violence were reported in Palnadu district, where TDP supporters allegedly targeted YSRCP backers in Kothaganeshunipadu village. This led to YSRCP Gurazala MLA K Mahesh Reddy visiting the affected village to express solidarity with the victims.

Addressing the media, Shankha Brata Bagchi, ADGP, Law & Order, confirmed that while the situation is largely under control, isolated incidents of violence have been reported in Palnadu district. Bagchi assured that law enforcement is actively working to apprehend those responsible for the unrest.

This series of events underscores the volatile political climate in Andhra Pradesh post-elections. Both parties have lodged serious allegations against each other, reflecting deep-seated tensions that have boiled over into violence. As authorities work to restore peace and order, the state remains on edge amidst these political skirmishes.
