Pondicherry Increases Monthly Pension for Freedom Fighters to Rs 15,000
The monthly pension for freedom fighters in Puducherry will be increased to Rs 15,000, as announced by Chief Minister N Rangasamy on Friday. The announcement was made during a meeting with freedom fighters on the 62nd De Jure merger day of Puducherry.

Increased Pension for Freedom Fighters
The Chief Minister stated that there had been requests to raise the pension from Rs 12,000 to Rs 15,000. He explained that the decision was made because many freedom fighters are now elderly and require financial support for their health needs. "Hence, the pension has been raised to Rs 15,000 a month," he said.
Consideration of Free House Site Pattas
Rangasamy also mentioned that the government is considering providing free house site pattas to freedom fighters. He praised their patriotic contributions to Puducherry's liberation from French rule. Additionally, he acknowledged the consistent demands from all political parties for statehood status for Puducherry.
Statehood Demand
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that Puducherry would achieve statehood soon. He noted that once Puducherry becomes a full-fledged state, the elected government could implement its decisions more swiftly. "I am firmly confident that the demand for statehood would be achieved sooner than later," he added.
To honour the freedom fighters, Rangasamy distributed gift hampers during the event.
