Polling officials trek for 3 days to reach 275 voters in Uttarakhand
EC officials said that there were 479 polling stations which were in snow covered areas in the state.
Dehradhun, Feb 17: Even the snow-capped hilly terrain couldn't stop polling officials from reaching voters in Uttarakhand. The state went to polls on Wednesday and polling officials, in a bid to reach voters even in the hilly terrain, began trekking from February 12 to reach Ghansali constituency in Tehri Garhwal.
According to news reports, polling officials trekked about 24 kilometres before reaching their destination. 275 voters residing in the constituency were able to exercise their voting rights on Wednesday.
An Election Commission officer said that Ghansali is situated at 10,000 feet and has no proper roads or mobile connectivity. Snow boots, sleeping bags were provided to the polling officials, who conducted successful polling in the area. EC officials said that there were 479 polling stations which were in snow covered areas in the state.
Uttarakhand recorded 68 per cent of voting on Wednesday.
