Actor-turned-politician Nikhil Kumaraswamy has resigned from the post of President of the Youth wing, taking responsibility for the party's loss in recently held Karnataka assembly elections.
Nikhil said that he will always stand with the party and requested to give a chance to the new leadership.

"Defeat is not the end, we all have to perform our duty with a spirit of sacrifice in the direction of building the party strong in the face of the defeat of this election, we have to allow new leadership. In this regard I am resigning as the President of the Youth wing of the Karnataka Pradesh Janata Dal-Secular unit. I request you to accept it," Nikhil wrote in his resignation letter.
Former Union Minister C M Ibrahim also stepped down as the JDS state president owning moral responsibility for the parties performance in the elections.

JDS managed to win only 19 seats in the May 10 assembly elections, making this its worst performance since its birth in 1999.
In the 2018 elections, the regional party won 37 seats but this year, it could not even retain its previous numbers. The party also performed poorly in its Vokkaliga bastion of Old Mysore.
