Jammu and Kashmir Political Leaders Mourn the Passing of Manmohan Singh, Celebrating His Humility and Wisdom

Political figures in Jammu and Kashmir, regardless of party affiliation, expressed their condolences on Thursday for the passing of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. They praised his humility and acknowledged his significant contributions as an economist and statesman. "Very sorry to hear about the demise of former PM Dr Manmohan Singh," said Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on X.

The National Conference (NC) released a statement noting that party president Farooq Abdullah and vice president Omar Abdullah were deeply saddened by Singh's death. They praised his vast contributions to India, recognising him as a statesman, economist, and a symbol of integrity who led with wisdom and humility. The NC also extended condolences to Singh's family, wishing them strength during this difficult time.

Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti highlighted Singh's efforts in promoting peace and development in Jammu and Kashmir. "I had the privilege of meeting Dr. Manmohan Singh & I am certain that he was one of the most humble and gentle souls I've encountered - an extremely rare trait in politicians today," she shared on X. She noted his humility was evident even during his tenure as prime minister.

Mufti further mentioned that Singh was a man of few words whose welfare initiatives benefited millions across various communities. His kindness was apparent as he personally returned calls during his time in office. Former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad also expressed his sorrow over Singh's passing, calling him a visionary leader and one of India's most respected statesmen.
