Meanwhile there is speculation galore that the move by Roy is a political one. Roy has been in the news since the Bengal elections. He had joined the BJP only to return to the Trinamool Congress later on.

These speculations come in the wake of Roy's family claiming that he has remained untraceable.

"Till now I am unable to contact my father. He is untraceable," his son Subhragshu Roy, also a Trinamool member had told new agency PTI.

Roy had joined the BJP in 2017 after differences between him and Mamata Banerjee had cropped up. He was also made the BJP's national vice president. In the 2021 election, he won the Bengal assembly elections on a BJP ticket.

Although his son Subhargshu Roy said that the family had filed a complaint, the police had indicated no such development.
