Pune Police Avert Clash by Detaining BJP Workers Near Congress Office
Police in Pune detained BJP workers on Wednesday to prevent a clash with Congress members amid escalating tensions between the two parties. The conflict began when Dhiraj Ghate, BJP's Pune city president, displayed hoardings criticising Rahul Gandhi's comments about Hindus.

Protests and Counter-Protests
Meanwhile, Congress workers, led by city president Arvind Shinde, protested against right-wing leader Sambhaji Bhide's remarks on women's attire. Bhide had stated that women wearing dress material instead of traditional saris should not participate in the Vat Savitri puja.
When asked about Ghate's posters in the protest area, Shinde remarked that Ghate moves around with police protection due to fear for his life. This comment angered BJP supporters, who then marched towards Congress Bhavan in Shivaji Nagar.
Police Intervention
Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone 1, Sandip Singh Gill, said, "We detained some BJP workers who were on their way to the Congress office to avoid any untoward incident." Another officer mentioned that 18 workers were detained and taken away in a police van.
To ensure safety, police increased security in Shivaji Nagar by deploying additional personnel outside Congress Bhavan. This action was crucial in preventing any potential violence between the opposing groups.
Bhide's Controversial Comments
Bhide's comments were made during the annual wari pilgrimage procession to Pandharpur on June 30. He also allegedly made remarks demeaning India's independence, which further fueled the protests.
The situation highlights the ongoing tension between BJP and Congress in Pune. Both parties continue to clash over various issues, leading to frequent confrontations and protests.
The police's timely intervention played a significant role in maintaining peace and preventing any escalation of violence between the two political groups.
