PNB scam: Why did Karnataka govt provide Mehul Choksi cover-fire, BJP asks
The BJP has sought answers on why the Congress government in Karnataka remained quiet despite knowing about the wrong-doings of Mehul Choksi, a prime accused in the PNB scam.

The BJP said that the Congress government was aware of the wrong-doings since 2015, but chose to provide Choksi cover fire. BJP spokesperson, Sambit Patra also asked Congress president, Rahul Gandhi and Karnataka Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah to explain why they provided Choksi cover-fire.
Citing media reports, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said the Karnataka government had submitted in courts in matters related to cases involving Choksi that he was a "habitual offender" and "wilful defaulter" and could even flee the country. The Karnataka government had said he should be investigated by the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate for the truth to come out, Patra said.
The BJP leader added that the state government, however, never approached the CBI, the ED or any central agency and let the local police probe the matter. "Should not Rahul Gandhi, Siddaramaiah and the Congress answer as to why this cover fire was provided to Mehul Choksi all these years," Patra said.
