Absconding diamond exporter Mehul Choksi's lawyer said he is in touch his client, but do know about his location. Advocate Sanjay Abbot said it's his privilege to be in touch with his client Mehul Choksi proprietor of Gitanjali Gems.
Sanjay Abbot, said, "Yes, we are in touch. That is a privilege communication between me and my client, I am not supposed to disclose. I have no idea where is he."
Abbot said, "Letter was written because everything has been sealed/seized my client is not in a position to operate any account to pay the employees. So it was written to tell them that they are free."
Meanwhile, Enforcement Directorate (ED) attached 21 immovable properties worth Rs 523.72 crore of Nirav Modi and companies controlled by him under PMLA. The attached assets include a farm house in Alibag, Solar Power Plant, 135 Acre land in Ahmednagar and residential & office properties in Mumbai and Pune.
Mehul Choski is named as accused in the FIR filed by CBI in Rs 114000 crore Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam. Nirav Modi, his wife Ami, brother Nishal, were also named. All of them fled the country in the first week of January.
Last week, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) suspended the passports of diamond merchant Nirav Modi and Gitanjali Gems owner Mehul Choksi for four weeks, the agency said in a statement. The agency has also asked Modi and Choksi to respond within one week and justify why their passports should not be revoked.
