PMO officials contribute day's salary for flood-hit J&K

New Delhi, Sep 11: All officers and staff of the Prime Minister's Office have voluntarily contributed their one day's salary to the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund for the flood-affected people of Jammu and Kashmir.

The gesture is to express their solidarity with the flood -affected people of J-K, a PMO statement said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had yesterday directed officials to provide total support to the state government to enable it step-up rescue and relief operations and had stressed on the need to quickly reach essential commodities to those affected.

Chairing a high-level emergency meeting to review relief operations in the state yesterday, Modi had emphasised that immediate attention be given to providing basic necessities like food and water to people severely hit by the calamity.

Around 200 people have lost their lives in the floods in J-K while as many as 82,000 people from the affected areas have been evacuated by the armed forces.
