PM Expresses Grief from Bhutan Visit
"A powerful explosion near Delhi's Red Fort metro station has shaken the nation," the Prime Minister said in his address from Thimphu. "Our agencies will get to the bottom of this conspiracy. The conspirators behind this will not be spared. All those responsible will be brought to justice."
"Today I come here with a heavy heart. The horrific incident that occurred in Delhi yesterday evening has saddened everyone. I understand the grief of the affected families. Today the entire nation stands with them," he added.
The blast, which occurred at around 6:52 pm on Monday, tore through a slow-moving car near the Red Fort signal, killing nine people and injuring 20 others. Several vehicles nearby were damaged in the explosion.
Main Suspect Linked to Terror Network
Investigators have identified the car's owner as Dr. Umar Mohammad, a resident of Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir. He is believed to have been driving the white Hyundai i20 when the explosion was triggered.
Sources revealed that Umar, a medical professional, had ties to a radical group of doctors who coordinated via Telegram and were connected to the Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). Another Pulwama resident, Tariq, reportedly gave Umar the vehicle and has since been detained for questioning.
Earlier the same day, police in Haryana's Faridabad recovered 2,900 kg of explosives and chemicals including ammonium nitrate, potassium nitrate, and sulphur from rooms rented by two Kashmiri doctors. Both suspects, Adeel Ahmad Rather and Muzammil Shakeel, were among eight people arrested in what officials described as a "white-collar terror" network linked to JeM and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind. Investigators now believe the Delhi blast is tied to this module.
"Operation Sindoor" Remains Active
Government sources confirmed that Operation Sindoor, a counter-terror initiative launched on May 7, remains ongoing. The operation was initiated following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians.
"Any act of terror would be considered an act of war against India. Operation Sindoor is on," the sources said.
Following the Pahalgam killings, Indian forces carried out a series of strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, eliminating more than 100 militants. Pakistan retaliated with missile and drone attacks, which were intercepted by Indian defenses before both sides agreed to a ceasefire on May 10.
Nationwide Crackdown Underway
As the investigation deepens, security agencies across multiple states are coordinating to dismantle the network believed to have orchestrated the Delhi explosion. Senior officials have stated that preliminary findings indicate the blast was part of a larger cross-border conspiracy targeting national symbols.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has directed Delhi Police and central agencies to submit a detailed report within 48 hours, while security has been tightened across the capital and at major monuments nationwide.
