PM Modi Unveils BJP's 'Sanghatan Parva, Sadasyata Abhiyan 2024' Membership Drive
PM Narendra Modi initiated the BJP's membership drive, aiming to not just increase numbers but to strengthen ideological and democratic values within the party. The drive also highlights BJP's commitment to internal democracy and women's representation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) membership drive on Monday, becoming the first member to enrol.
The event took place at the BJP headquarters, with key figures such as BJP chief JP Nadda, Union ministers Rajnath Singh and Amit Shah in attendance.

The membership drive aims to renew existing memberships and attract new members in accordance with the party's constitutional requirements. Both JP Nadda and Amit Shah expressed optimism that the party would surpass 10 crore members, a milestone first achieved in 2014.
PM Modi's Address
During the event, PM Modi remarked, "Another round of 'Sadasyata Abhiyan' is beginning today. From Bharatiya Jana Sangh till now, we have made all possible efforts to bring a new political culture in the country." He emphasised that BJP is unique in expanding its work by strictly adhering to democratic processes as per its constitution.
PM Modi highlighted the importance of internal democracy within political parties. He stated, "The organisation or political party through which people give power, that unit, that organisation, that party... if it doesn't follow democratic values if internal democracy doesn't live in it, then situation arises which is faced by several other political parties today."
Membership Drive Significance
The Prime Minister stressed that this membership drive is not merely a ritual but an expansion of their family. He added, "It isn't a game of numbers. It doesn't matter the numbers we achieve. This membership drive is an ideological and emotional movement."
Reflecting on his past experiences before entering politics, PM Modi shared anecdotes from the Jansangh era. He recalled how workers painted lamps on walls with great enthusiasm despite being mocked by other political leaders. "We are those people who painted lotus on the walls with devotion because we believed that the lotus painted on the walls will someday get painted on hearts as well," he said.
PM Modi also mentioned that during those times, many karyakartas (members) were either travelling extensively or imprisoned due to their dedication to societal work. "It was said that our karyakartas were either travelling or in jail," he noted.
Women's Reservation
The Prime Minister touched upon the implementation of 33 percent reservation for women in state assemblies and Lok Sabha during this term. He questioned whether this membership campaign would include individuals capable of ensuring maximum female representation as MLAs and MPs.
"If this 33 percent reservation for women is going to come in this term, then will I include all those people in my membership campaign who can make maximum number of women victorious and make them MLAs, MPs in such an important decision of my party?" PM Modi asked.
This initiative underscores the BJP's commitment to fostering internal democracy and expanding its reach while staying true to its ideological roots. The drive aims not just at increasing numbers but at strengthening the party's core values and principles.
