PM Modi, Trump Exchange Warm Diwali Wishes, Focus on Joint Fight Against Terrorism

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday shared that he had received a phone call from US President Donald Trump, who extended his Diwali wishes. During their conversation, both leaders reiterated their shared resolve to unite against terrorism in every form and strengthen the bond between India and the United States.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties Through Shared Values

Expressing his gratitude, Prime Minister Modi said that India and the United States are "two great democracies" committed to spreading "hope and unity" across the world. He emphasized that both nations will continue to stand together against "terrorism in all its forms," reinforcing their common vision of peace and stability.

President Trump, in turn, praised Modi, calling him a "great person" and a "great friend." He highlighted the mutual respect and cooperation that define the India-US partnership, especially in the areas of trade and regional peace.

Trump's Remarks on Peace and Prosperity

At the Diwali celebration event, Trump extended greetings to the people of India and spoke warmly about his conversation with Modi.

"Let me extend our warmest wishes to the people of India. I just spoke to your Prime Minister today. Had a great conversation. We talked about trade... He's very interested in that. Although we did talk a little while ago about let's have no wars with Pakistan. The fact that trade was involved, I was able to talk about that. And we have no war with Pakistan and India. That was a very, very good thing," Trump said.

The US President added, "He's a great person, and he's become a great friend of mine over the years."

Celebrating Diwali at the White House

Reflecting on the spirit of the festival, Trump said, "In a few moments, we'll light the diya as a symbol of faith in the victory of light over darkness... It's knowledge over ignorance and good over evil. During Diwali, the revellers recall ancient stories of enemies defeated, obstacles removed, and captives freed."

He also remarked that the Diya's flame is a reminder "to seek the path of wisdom, to work with diligence, and to always give thanks for our many blessings."

Following his remarks, President Trump lit the diyas to mark the Diwali celebration at the White House. The event saw the presence of senior officials including FBI Director Kash Patel, ODNI Director Tulsi Gabbard, White House Deputy Press Secretary Kush Desai, India's Ambassador to the US Vinay Mohan Kwatra, and US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor.

A Celebration of Cultural Unity and Friendship

Prominent Indian-American business leaders also joined the event, symbolizing the strong and growing role of the Indian diaspora in fostering closer India-US relations. The Diwali celebration not only highlighted the festival's cultural importance in American society but also reinforced the enduring friendship and shared democratic values between the two nations.
