Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Kerala's Wayanad district on Saturday, August 10, to assess the situation in the landslide-affected areas and oversee the ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts.

During his visit, PM Modi will meet with victims in hospitals and relief camps, ensuring that proper support is provided to those affected by the tragedy.

Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, a former MP of Wayanad, expressed gratitude towards PM Modi for his decision to visit the region following the deadly landslides.

He posted on X, "Thank you, Modi ji, for visiting Wayanad to personally take stock of the terrible tragedy. This is a good decision. I am confident that once the Prime Minister sees the extent of the devastation firsthand, he will declare it a national disaster."

Modi's visit will follow a detailed schedule. He is expected to arrive in Kerala's Kannaur around 11 a.m. on Saturday, from where he will conduct an aerial survey of the landslide-affected areas in Wayanad.

Around 12:15 p.m., he will visit the on-ground locations impacted by the landslides and receive a briefing from rescue teams about the ongoing evacuation operations.

The Prime Minister will then visit the relief camp and hospital where survivors are currently being rehabilitated, interacting with those affected and listening to their grievances. Following this, he will chair a review meeting to receive a detailed briefing on the incident and the relief efforts.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced PM Modi's visit earlier this week during a press conference, expressing hope that the central government would declare the landslides a national disaster and a severe calamity.

The landslides that struck Chooralmala and Mundakkai in Wayanad on July 30 resulted in widespread devastation, with over 400 people losing their lives and 150 still missing.

The final death toll will be confirmed after DNA results of the recovered bodies, according to the Chief Minister.
