PM Modi To Meet Rohit Sharma's World Cup Winning Team Tomorrow

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet the T20 World Cup winning team on Thursday at 11 am.

The Men in Blue led by captain Rohit Sharma is arriving at Delhi at around 6.20 am on Thursday after being stranded for three days due to a category 4 hurricane in Barbados.

Also, plans are underway for a roadshow in Mumbai to honor the victorious team, which ended an 11-year trophy drought.

The Air India special charter flight AIC24WC -- Air India Champions 24 World Cup -- took off around 4:50am local time earlier today.

India captain Rohit Sharma shared a triumphant moment on Instagram, posting "Coming home" alongside a photo of himself with the trophy inside the aircraft before departure. The flight, arranged by the BCCI, carried the Indian squad, support staff, players' families, board officials, and members of the travelling media contingent.

The Rohit Sharma-led team secured the title with a thrilling seven-run victory over South Africa in the final on Saturday. The Boeing 777 took off from New Jersey, USA, on July 2 and landed in Barbados around 2 am local time. The airport staff noted that they had never seen a larger plane land at Grantley Adams International Airport, which had just resumed operations on Tuesday.

Initially, the Indian team was scheduled to depart around 6 pm local time on July 2 and arrive at 7:45 pm (IST) on Wednesday, but the departure was delayed due to the plane's late arrival.

In the recently concluded World Cup, the Men in Blue beat South Africa by 7 runs to clinch the World Cup at the Kingston Oval in Barbados.
