PM Modi To Launch Projects Worth ₹37,000 Crore In Northeast During Visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Mizoram, Manipur, and Assam on September 13 and 14 to launch and lay the foundation stone for a series of major development projects across the northeast.

In a post on 'X' on Friday, Modi wrote, "Over the next few days, on 13th, 14th, and 15th September, I will be attending programmes in Mizoram, Manipur, Assam, West Bengal and Bihar aimed at boosting 'Ease of Living.' These projects will have a very positive impact on people's lives, especially towards boosting connectivity, job creation and more."

According to the Prime Minister's Office, Modi will begin his visit in Aizawl, Mizoram, on September 13, where he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of projects worth over ₹9,000 crore. Among them is the Bairabi-Sairang New Rail Line, which will connect the state capital to the Indian Railways network for the first time.

Later that day, the Prime Minister will be in Churachandpur, Manipur, to launch projects valued at over ₹7,300 crore, followed by an event in Imphal where he will inaugurate projects worth more than ₹1,200 crore.

On September 14, Modi will travel to Assam to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of projects worth over ₹18,530 crore, including the Assam Bio-ethanol Private Limited and the Numaligarh Refinery Plant in Golaghat.

Landmark Projects in the Northeast Under Modi Government
Since coming to power, the Modi government has emphasized development in the northeast, describing the region as India's "gateway to Southeast Asia."

In March last year, Modi inaugurated the Sela Tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh, the world's longest bi-lane tunnel at 13,000 feet. Built by the Border Roads Organisation at a cost of ₹825 crore, the tunnel links Arunachal's Tawang with Assam's Tezpur.

In September 2018, the Prime Minister inaugurated Sikkim's first airport at Pakyong, constructed at a cost of ₹605 crore and located 60 km from the India-China border. Built under the UDAN scheme, it also supports the Indian Air Force.

In April 2023, Modi inaugurated the first All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Assam. Built for ₹1,123 crore, AIIMS Guwahati is a 750-bed hospital that provides modern healthcare facilities for the entire region.

The National Sports University in Manipur, with a sanctioned cost of ₹643.34 crore, had its foundation stone laid in 2018 under the government's Act East Policy.

In November 2022, President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the permanent campus of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) in Aizawl, Mizoram. The institution is expected to strengthen education and research in media and communication studies across the northeast.

Together, these projects highlight the government's focus on strengthening connectivity, healthcare, education, and infrastructure in the region, while positioning the northeast as a vital link to Southeast Asia.
