BJP Members Urge PM Modi to Act for ISKCON Monk's Release from Bangladesh Jail
A BJP Lok Sabha member has called for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intervention in the case of ISKCON monk Chinmoy Krishna Das, who is imprisoned in Bangladesh on sedition charges. Ujjain MP Anil Firojiya highlighted this issue during Zero Hour in Lok Sabha, urging action for the monk's release.

BJP member Hema Malini from Mathura expressed her concerns over the situation. She stated that religion-related insults, violence, and injustice are intolerable. "We cannot be silent. This is not an issue of diplomacy, but linked to our emotions and devotion to Shri Krishna," she said. Malini emphasised that the safety of Hindu minorities is at risk.
Concerns Over ISKCON Temples
Malini condemned the targeting of ISKCON temples, which are renowned for promoting Vedic knowledge globally. She praised their efforts in spreading Krishna consciousness and peace but noted they face persecution from radicals. The inability of Hindu minorities to worship Krishna deeply affects her and millions of devotees.
She criticised the arrest of Chinmoy Das, describing it as unjust. Das was leading a peaceful protest against the mistreatment of Hindus in Bangladesh when he was charged with sedition. Malini raised this issue in parliament following requests from saints and ISKCON followers in her constituency.
Calls for Action Against Atrocities
Dilip Saikia, BJP member from Darrang-Udalguri in Assam, urged Parliament to pass a resolution urging Bangladesh to stop atrocities against Hindus. He highlighted that since Bangladesh's formation in 1971, many Bangladeshi Muslims have entered Assam, influencing its political landscape.
Firojiya pointed out that no lawyers were available to represent Chinmoy Das in Bangladesh, and one willing lawyer was critically ill. He stressed the need for immediate intervention to address these challenges faced by Hindu minorities and ISKCON devotees.
The situation underscores the ongoing concerns about religious freedom and minority rights in Bangladesh. The call for intervention reflects a broader demand for justice and protection for those facing persecution based on their faith.
