PM Modi Says India-US Trade Talks to Unlock ‘Limitless Potential’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently addressed the ongoing trade discussions with the United States, following positive comments from US President Donald Trump. Both leaders expressed optimism about the progress of these negotiations. "India and the US are close friends and natural partners. I am confident that our trade negotiations will pave the way for unlocking the limitless potential of the India-US partnership," PM Modi stated on X.

President Trump had earlier announced that both nations were actively working to resolve trade barriers. "I am pleased to announce that India, and the United States of America, are continuing negotiations to address the Trade Barriers between our two Nations. I look forward to speaking with my very good friend, Prime Minister Modi, in the upcoming weeks. I feel certain that there will be no difficulty in coming to a successful conclusion for both of our Great Countries!" he shared on Truth Social.

Trade Tariffs and Negotiations

The recent change in Trump's tone follows his administration's imposition of 25% tariffs on Indian goods, along with an additional 25% on India's Russian oil imports, resulting in a total duty of 50%. Despite these challenges, both leaders remain committed to finding a resolution that benefits both countries.

In a recent statement at the Oval Office, President Trump praised PM Modi as a "great Prime Minister" and affirmed their friendship despite previous tensions over tariffs. He remarked, "There is nothing to worry about. We just have moments on occasion," while also reiterating concerns regarding India's oil purchases from Russia.

PM Modi assured that efforts are underway to conclude these discussions swiftly. He expressed eagerness to converse with President Trump soon. "Our teams are working to conclude these discussions at the earliest. I am also looking forward to speaking with President Trump. We will work together to secure a brighter, more prosperous future for both our people," he added.
