PM Modi Reiterates 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' Says Made In India Semiconductor Chips Will Be Available Soon

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his Independence Day 2025 address from the ramparts of the Red Fort, reaffirmed his government's commitment to the Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) mission, with a special emphasis on India's breakthrough in semiconductor chip manufacturing.

Highlighting the nation's technological strides, PM Modi revealed that the idea of producing semiconductor chips in India was first recorded in government files 50-60 years ago, but remained an unfulfilled dream for decades. "For years, this vision lay buried in paperwork. But today's new India does not just dream-it delivers," he declared, drawing applause from the audience.

He announced that India has successfully achieved what was once considered an impossible task: producing world-class semiconductor chips on home soil. The Prime Minister added that soon India-made chips will be available not only for domestic use but also for global markets, strengthening the country's position in the international technology supply chain.

Semiconductor chips-tiny, wafer-like components made from materials such as silicon-are the brains of modern electronics. They control and process data in everything from smartphones, computers, and cars to medical equipment and satellites. Their production is highly complex, requiring advanced technology, precision engineering, and cleanroom manufacturing environments.

PM Modi linked this achievement to the broader goals of Atmanirbhar Bharat, asserting that technological self-reliance is essential for national security, economic growth, and global competitiveness. "This is not just a milestone-it's a foundation for the India of the future," he said.

The announcement marks a significant step in India's journey towards becoming a global technology powerhouse.
