PM Modi Praises Adani Group, Says Gautam Adani Has Built A Great Port In Kerala
In a notable event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Vizhinjam International Deepwater Multipurpose Seaport in Kerala, marking a significant milestone in the country's maritime sector. During this ceremony, PM Modi didn't miss the chance to acknowledge Gautam Adani, the Adani Group Chairman, for his remarkable contribution to the project. The Prime Minister expressed his admiration for Adani's efforts in constructing what he termed a "great port in Kerala," setting a new benchmark in the country's port development.
The project, a colossal 8,900 crore initiative developed by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd under a public-private partnership, signifies a leap towards modern infrastructure development. The presence of Kerala's Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, and Congress MP Shashi Tharoor at the inauguration underscored the project's significance across political lines. PM Modi humorously pointed out that Adani's achievement in Kerala might stir envy among the people of Gujarat, given Adani's long history of port development in the state without creating one quite like Vizhinjam.

A New Era for India's Maritime Trade
The Vizhinjam Seaport is poised to transform India's maritime capabilities significantly. Its strategic placement near international shipping routes offers an advantage in reducing transit times, which is pivotal for maritime trade. Recognized as one of India's few natural deep-water ports, Vizhinjam can accommodate the largest cargo and container ships, positioning it as a crucial node in global maritime logistics. The port's operationalization is anticipated to catalyze Kerala's economic growth through job creation, trade enhancement, and investment attraction, establishing the state as a gateway for commerce between Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
In his address, PM Modi described the Vizhinjam International Deepwater Multipurpose Seaport as a "symbol of new-age development," emphasizing its role in harnessing the sea's potential while balancing natural beauty. This vision for development reflects a broader agenda to modernize India's infrastructure while being mindful of environmental and aesthetic considerations.
Kerala CM's Acknowledgment and Vision
Kerala's Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, echoed the sentiments of gratitude towards PM Modi for dedicating this landmark project to the nation. He lauded the Adani Group for their exemplary execution of the mission, which stands as a testament to their commitment to excellence. The Chief Minister's acknowledgment underscores the collaborative effort between the state and central governments, along with the private sector, to advance India's infrastructure development.
This ambitious project kicked off construction on December 5, 2015, by Adani Vizhinjam Port Private Limited, the private partner in this venture. The port's development model, which combines public and private resources, serves as a blueprint for future infrastructure projects across the country.
