New Delhi, Feb 5: Citing the liberalised FDI regime in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday invited French companies to take advantage of 'Make in India' programme in various sectors.

He extended the invitation when French Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development Laurent Fabius called on him here.

The two discussed prospects of cooperation in various fields, including space, defence, railways, tourism, smart cities, sustainable development, energy and climate change, a PMO statement said.

The Prime Minister invited French companies to take advantage of India's 'Make in India' programme in various sectors, especially in view of the liberalized FDI regime in India, it said.

India has, in the last few months, opened various sectors to FDI. This includes raising the cap of FDI in defence and insurance from 26 to 49 per cent.

The Prime Minister told Fabius that he was looking forward to his visit to France in April as he recalled his meeting with President Francois Hollande on the sidelines of G-20 Summit in Brisbane last year.

Modi conveyed condolences to the victims of recent terror attacks in France and expressed India's solidarity with the people of France. Paris was struck by three terrorists who attacked a magazine office, killing at least 12 people.
