PM Modi Inaugurates Noida International Airport, Set To Ease IGI Congestion And Boost Connectivity, Watch

Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the much-awaited Noida International Airport, describing it as a major boost to connectivity, commerce, and infrastructure in the National Capital Region (NCR). The airport, located in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, is one of India's most ambitious greenfield projects.

The Prime Minister said the new airport will help reduce the heavy burden on Indira Gandhi International Airport while opening new opportunities for trade, travel, and economic growth.

A Major Step for Connectivity and Economic Growth

Speaking at the inauguration, Modi highlighted that the airport will strengthen both domestic and international connectivity. He noted that improved air travel facilities will support tourism, businesses, and overall regional development.

He also emphasised the airport's strong cargo infrastructure, which is expected to play a key role in boosting the logistics sector. With efficient cargo handling, industries and farmers will find it easier to transport goods quickly, helping them reach larger markets.

Festive Atmosphere at Jewar

The inauguration event witnessed a vibrant and celebratory atmosphere as large crowds gathered in Jewar. People arrived early in the morning to witness the historic moment.

Cultural performances added to the excitement, with conch blowers from Kanpur, drummers and dancers from Mahoba, and trumpet players from different parts of Uttar Pradesh entertaining the audience. Many attendees were seen waving the national flag, while some also carried party flags, reflecting a mix of celebration and political enthusiasm.

Yogi Adityanath Calls It a Milestone

Yogi Adityanath described the airport as a landmark achievement in the development journey of the state. He said the project represents a new phase of growth for Uttar Pradesh within the vision of a "New India".

According to him, the airport will create new opportunities for the youth and act as a strong driver of development. He also acknowledged the contribution of farmers, stating that their support made the project possible.

The Chief Minister added that the airport would serve as a "runway for development," helping dreams take flight and opening doors to new possibilities.

Key Features of Noida International Airport

The Noida International Airport has been developed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model with an investment of around ₹11,200 crore. In its first phase, the airport will be able to handle about 12 million passengers annually, with the capacity to expand up to 70 million in the future.

It features a 3,900-meter-long runway and advanced navigation systems, allowing round-the-clock and all-weather operations. The airport is also equipped with modern facilities to ensure safe and efficient travel for passengers.

A major highlight is its cargo infrastructure, which can initially handle 250,000 metric tonnes and can be expanded up to 1.8 million metric tonnes. Additionally, a dedicated Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility will support aviation operations and create jobs.

Strategic Location and Seamless Connectivity

The airport's location near the Yamuna Expressway makes it highly accessible. It is also being integrated with multi-modal transport networks, ensuring smooth connectivity through road, rail, and other transport systems.

As the second international airport serving Delhi-NCR, it is expected to significantly reduce congestion at IGI Airport and provide travelers with more options.
