PM Modi inaugurates Global Partnership Artificial Intelligence Summit, Highlights Darker Aspects Of AI

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence Summit on Tuesday and flagged the concern of misuse of artificial intelligence (AI). AI tools help and ease research and technology work, but possess "darker aspects" which may harm the world. India is committed to responsible and ethical use of the technology, Prime Minister underlined.

Along with Prime Minister Modi, 28 representatives from other member countries participated in the event aimed at using artificial intelligence with ethics.

Prime Minister Modi in his address said "Besides the challenge of deepfakes, cyber security, and data theft, AI tools falling in the hands of terrorists pose a big threat. Global security will face a big threat if AI-laced weapons were to reach terrorist organisations. We have to deliberate on this issue and reach a concrete plan to stop the misuse of AI,"

"Just like we have agreements and protocols for various international issues, we have to create a global framework for the ethical use of AI. This will include a protocol for testing and deployment of high-risk and frontier AI tools," PM added.

Union Minister for Information and Technology Ashwani Vaishnav also attended too graced the event. He said "The world's thinking on AI is converging. People understand the potential, look to the benefits that can come, and understand the dangers and put certain guardrails. There is convergence on how AI should be treated going forward."

"There will be regulatory aspects that are in line with past agreements and declarations. The thinking process of GPAI will be in line with global ideas. We are negotiating a declaration document at the end of GPAI 2023, which we hope we'll be able to arrive at through consensus," he added.
