PM Modi In Manipur: Due To Bad Weather, Prime Minister Travels To Churachandpur By Car

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Manipur's Imphal on Saturday turned into a journey shaped by the state's unpredictable monsoon weather. This was his first trip since ethnic clashes broke out in May 2023 between the Meitei and Kuki communities, violence that claimed over 250 lives and displaced nearly 60,000 people.

Weather Alters the Prime Minister's Plans

The day was marked by heavy rainfall, forcing changes in the Prime Minister's schedule. His first stop was Peace Ground in Churachandpur, home to the Kuki-Zo community, located 61 km from Imphal. Authorities initially ruled out helicopter travel due to unsafe flying conditions. Undeterred, PM Modi decided to brave the weather and take the road-a journey of nearly 1.5 hours through rain-soaked hills.

At the rally, where thousands had gathered despite downpours, PM Modi praised the spirit of Manipur's people:
"I salute the spirit of the people of Manipur. Even in such heavy rain, you came here in such large numbers," he said, expressing gratitude for their resilience and warmth.

The Prime Minister emphasized that while the weather disrupted plans, it also gave him a chance to see the state's landscapes and people more closely. "It was good that my helicopter did not fly today and I came by road. The scenes that I saw on the road... citizens standing with tricolors in the rain-it touched my heart," he shared.

Promises Amidst the Storm

Reiterating the Centre's commitment, PM Modi said: "In order to bring life back on track in Manipur, the government of India is making all possible efforts." He appealed to all communities to embrace peace, assuring them of his government's unwavering support.
