PM Modi Hits Out At TMC Over Sandeshkhali, Calls For Women's Support With 'Revenge' Votes

In his address at a rally in the Arambagh area of Hooghly district, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday remarked that social reformer Raja Ram Mohan Roy's "soul would be crying" if he were apprised of the alleged sexual assault against women in West Bengal's Sandeshkhali.

Modi stated that the nation witnessed the actions of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) towards the women of Sandeshkhali, expressing widespread outrage.

He suggested that Raja Ram Mohan Roy would have been deeply disturbed by the events in Sandeshkhali. Modi further highlighted that a TMC leader had allegedly overstepped boundaries, leading to the arrest of Sheikh Shahjahan by the police, which he attributed to pressure from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Sheikh Shahjahan, facing accusations of sexual assault and land-grabbing, was subsequently arrested and suspended from the Trinamool Congress. Criticism was also directed at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her purported lack of response to the Sandeshkhali incident. Modi asserted that the arrest of Trinamool MP Sheikh Shahjahan was prompted solely by BJP pressure on the authorities.

Moreover, Modi questioned the silence of the Opposition INDIA bloc regarding Sandeshkhali, likening their response to Mahatma Gandhi's three monkeys. He remarked that the leaders of the INDIA alliance remained conspicuously silent on the Sandeshkhali incident.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also inaugurated projects totaling Rs 7,200 crore and laid the foundation stone for initiatives in the Arambagh area of Hooghly district, West Bengal. These projects span various sectors including railways, ports, oil pipelines, LPG supply, and wastewater treatment.
