Prior to his departure for Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, where the 20th ASEAN-India Summit will be held, Prime Minister Narendra Modi outlined the key focus of discussions among member countries, which will revolve around shaping the "future framework" of their partnership. Prime Minister Modi embarked on his journey to Jakarta on Wednesday evening.

In anticipation of the trip, Prime Minister Modi expressed, "I am traveling to Jakarta in response to President Joko Widodo's invitation to participate in ASEAN-related meetings. My first engagement will be the 20th ASEAN-India Summit. I eagerly anticipate discussions with ASEAN leaders regarding the evolving nature of our partnership, now entering its fourth decade. Engagement with ASEAN constitutes a vital aspect of India's 'Act East' policy. Subsequently, I will be attending the 18th East Asia Summit."

A statement released by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) elaborated on the agenda, stating, "This forum provides a valuable opportunity to deliberate on regionally significant topics, including food and energy security, environmental concerns, healthcare, and the digital transformation. I am eager to exchange perspectives with fellow leaders from the East Asia Summit on practical measures for cooperative efforts in addressing these global challenges," the PMO statement concluded.
