PM Modi Felicitates Construction Workers Who Built New Parliament Building

Prime Minister Narendra Modi who inaugurated the new Parliament building today felicitated a group of construction workers.

These workers were involved in the construction of the new Parliament. This was followed by a 'sarv-dharma' (all faith) prayers by representatives from several religions.

The PM reached the new Parliament building at 7.30 am, following which he and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla sat down for a puja. Once the puja ended the PM prostrated before the historic Sengol.

The Sengol was handed over to the PMN by the Adheenams. The PM sought their blessings on this historic moment. The Sengol was then carried by the PM to the Lok Sabha chamber, where he installed the same.

The new Parliament building can seat 888 members in the Lok Sabha and 300 in the Rajya Sabha. For a joint sitting the Lok Sabha chamber can seat 1,280 members.

The new building was built by Tata Projects Ltd. It has a grand Constitutional Hall to showcase India's democratic heritage, a lounge for MPs, a library and multiple committee rooms, dining areas and ample parking space.
