PM Modi Directs Steps To Shield Citizens From West Asia Conflict Fallout In CCS Meet

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday chaired a crucial meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) to assess India's preparedness amid the escalating crisis in West Asia. This was the second high-level CCS meeting led by the Prime Minister on the issue, underlining the government's focus on shielding the country from the fallout of the ongoing conflict involving Iran and the wider Middle East region.

Focus On Fuel Supply, Power Availability And Essential Stability

During the meeting, PM Modi reviewed key steps being taken to maintain stability in essential supplies, with a particular focus on LPG and LNG availability, fuel duty reduction and measures in the power sector. The review came as the government moved to minimise any possible disruptions in energy supplies and prevent a ripple effect on households and industries.

According to a release issued by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), the discussions centred on ensuring that essential commodities and services remain stable despite the geopolitical turbulence in the region.

Government Pushes Global Diversification Of Critical Supplies

The PMO said the government is actively working to diversify global sourcing of energy, fertilisers and other critical supply chains to reduce dependence on vulnerable routes or regions affected by the conflict. This broader strategy is aimed at strengthening India's resilience against any prolonged instability in West Asia.

The cabinet secretary briefed members of the CCS on the action already taken to secure the supply of petroleum products, especially LNG and LPG, while also ensuring adequate power availability across the country.

The review reflected the government's attempt to stay ahead of any potential shortages or price shocks by broadening procurement channels and tightening coordination across ministries.

Agriculture, Aviation, Shipping And MSMEs Among Key Sectors Reviewed

Apart from energy and power, the CCS also examined the preparedness of several sectors that could face pressure due to the crisis. The PMO statement said interventions across agriculture, fertilisers, shipping, aviation, logistics and MSMEs were discussed in detail.

These sectors are considered especially vulnerable to disruptions in fuel prices, freight routes, import costs and supply chain bottlenecks, making coordinated planning essential if the conflict worsens.

The meeting highlighted the Centre's effort to adopt a whole-of-government approach, bringing together multiple departments to respond quickly to emerging challenges.

Reiterating the government's priority, Prime Minister Modi directed officials to ensure that the impact of the Middle East conflict does not burden Indian citizens.

"All efforts must be made to safeguard the citizens from the impact of the Middle East conflict," Prime Minister Narendra Modi said while chairing the Cabinet Committee on Security meeting.

The direction came as the government reviewed ongoing steps to protect domestic supplies, maintain power security and cushion key sectors from external shocks linked to the worsening situation in West Asia.
