PM Modi Congratulates 'Dear Friend' Trump On Inauguration, Bats For Stronger India-US Ties
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations to newly-elected US President Donald Trump on his inauguration, marking a significant chapter in American political history.
PM Modi's Tweet
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi wrote, "Congratulations my dear friend President @realDonaldTrump on your historic inauguration as the 47th President of the United States! I look forward to working closely together once again, to benefit both our countries, and to shape a better future for the world. Best wishes for a successful term ahead!"

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) earlier confirmed that both leaders had reiterated their commitment to strengthening India-US relations across diverse sectors. During a phone conversation following Trump's November election victory, PM Modi lauded the US leader's "spectacular and resounding victory," which he said reflected the American people's "deep trust" in Trump's leadership and vision.
Trump Sworn in as 47th US President
Donald J. Trump took the oath of office on Monday, reclaiming the presidency four years after his tumultuous departure from Washington. The 78-year-old Republican leader's return to power underscores his enduring influence and marks what is widely regarded as one of the most remarkable political comebacks in US history.
Trump's victory over Democratic rival Kamala Harris in the November 5 election was hard-fought, overcoming two impeachment trials, a criminal conviction, and even assassination attempts. His promise to reset US policies on immigration, trade, and energy has captivated his base and rekindled his image as a strongman leader.
The inauguration, held indoors under the Capitol Rotunda due to frigid weather, was attended by dignitaries including Trump's wife Melania, daughter Ivanka Trump, son-in-law Jared Kushner, and notable business magnates Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Tim Cook. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar represented India as PM Modi's special envoy.
JD Vance Sworn in as Vice President
JD Vance, the newly elected vice president, also took the oath of office ahead of Trump. The ceremony marked the beginning of a new administration committed to reshaping domestic and foreign policies.
On his first day in office, Trump is expected to issue several executive orders, including initiating the process to end birthright citizenship. His agenda, which includes aggressive reforms in immigration, trade, and energy policies, reflects his campaign's focus on restoring the US's global standing and economic strength.
Trump's return to the presidency has been hailed as a transformative moment in American politics, setting the stage for significant shifts in the country's policy landscape.
