PM Modi Atoning for Congress Sins Through Triple Talaq Amendment, Claims Jitendra Singh
Union Minister Jitendra Singh stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is addressing past errors made by the Congress, citing the triple talaq amendment as an example. Singh mentioned that this amendment aims to provide justice to women from a specific community and uplift the underprivileged. He made these remarks while speaking to the media during the state-level Samvidhaan Gaurav Abhiyan programme.

Singh criticised the Congress for its historical treatment of BR Ambedkar, accusing them of socially and politically sidelining him. He claimed that Congress leaders now pretend to align with Ambedkar's legacy for electoral gains. According to Singh, the Congress distorted BJP leaders' statements and made 88 amendments to the Constitution, often misusing Article 356 for their benefit.
Ambedkar's Legacy and Recognition
The minister highlighted Ambedkar's significant role in crafting an inclusive Constitution that ensured justice for backward classes, Dalits, tribals, and other marginalised groups. Singh emphasised that every BJP member respects Ambedkar's thoughts and principles. He also pointed out that while the Congress awarded Bharat Ratna to its former prime ministers, it was the NDA government that honoured Ambedkar with this prestigious award.
Singh took a jab at the Congress, suggesting that their focus remains limited to family members like sons, daughters, and sons-in-law. He praised Prime Minister Modi for recognising five key locations associated with Ambedkar's life, including his birthplace in Madhya Pradesh's Mau and places in London, Delhi, and Mumbai where he studied or was cremated. Memorials were established at these sites under Modi's leadership.
Broader Political Context
Prime Minister Modi has given equal respect to various leaders such as Ambedkar, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Lal Bahadur Shastri, and Dr Manmohan Singh. Singh noted that these leaders were often overlooked by the Congress. During the Samvidhaan Gaurav Abhiyan event, state BJP chief Rajeev Bindal accused the Congress of repeatedly violating the Constitution to maintain power but now seeks votes by invoking it.
Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur added that Ambedkar had opposed Congress's Kashmir policy, arguing it wouldn't solve the region's issues. However, his views were ignored by the party at that time. These discussions highlight ongoing political debates around historical decisions and their impact on current governance.
The remarks by Union Minister Jitendra Singh reflect ongoing political tensions between BJP and Congress over historical narratives and constitutional amendments. The focus on Ambedkar's legacy underscores efforts by both parties to align themselves with his contributions to India's democratic framework.
