PM Modi Offers Rs 2 Lakh Relief to Families of Indians Killed in Kuwait Blaze
In a compassionate response to the tragic fire incident in Kuwait, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh each for the bereaved families of Indian nationals who perished. The devastating blaze, which erupted early on Wednesday in a multi-storey building in Mangaf area, southern Kuwait, claimed the lives of at least 49 individuals, predominantly Indians, and left over 50 injured, as reported by officials.

The Prime Minister convened a review meeting at his official residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, to deliberate on the catastrophe. During the meeting, he expressed profound grief over the incident and offered his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. He also wished a swift recovery for those injured. Modi has directed that all possible assistance be extended by the Government of India in this dire situation.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister has tasked the Minister of State for External Affairs to promptly visit Kuwait to oversee relief operations and ensure the quick repatriation of the mortal remains of the deceased Indian nationals. This directive underscores India's commitment to its citizens abroad in times of crisis.
The announcement of ex-gratia relief from the Prime Minister's Relief Fund was part of a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). The meeting saw attendance from key figures including External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh, Pramod Kumar Mishra (Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister), National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra, among other senior officials.
Earlier in the day, the Indian embassy in Kuwait had communicated its engagement with Kuwaiti law enforcement, fire service, and health department authorities to coordinate necessary actions following the tragedy. This incident has sparked a swift and coordinated response from Indian officials to mitigate the aftermath and provide support to those affected.
The collective efforts by Indian authorities highlight a dedicated approach towards ensuring the welfare of its citizens overseas amidst unforeseen calamities. The government's prompt action and financial assistance aim to offer some solace to the families grieving the loss of their loved ones in this tragic event.
