PM Modi And Google CEO Sundar Pichai Talks: How AI Will Shape India’s Economy And Innovation
Google CEO Sundar Pichai has spoken about the "incredible opportunities" that artificial intelligence (AI) will bring to India. His statement came after he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the AI Action Summit in Paris.
The CEO of Alphabet also highlighted the potential for close cooperation between Google and India to support the country's digital transformation.

Taking to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, Pichai wrote, "Delighted to meet with PM Modi today while in Paris for the AI Action Summit. We discussed the incredible opportunities AI will bring to India and ways we can work closely together on India's digital transformation."
Earlier on Tuesday, PM Modi addressed the India-France CEOs Forum in Paris. He said that the forum plays an important role in strengthening economic ties and encouraging innovation. He also noted that business leaders from both countries are working together to create new opportunities in key sectors, which will drive future growth and investment.
Speaking at the event, PM Modi said, "This is more than just a business event-it is a coming together of the brightest minds from India and France. You are embracing innovation, collaboration, and progress with purpose. Beyond business connections, you are also reinforcing the strategic partnership between India and France."
He further stated that India and France share strong trust and common values. He added, "India and France are not just connected by democratic values. Trust, innovation, and service to people are the pillars of our friendship. Our relationship goes beyond our two nations. Together, we are providing solutions to global problems."
PM Modi also co-chaired the AI Action Summit with French President Emmanuel Macron. The summit, which lasted a week, ended with a high-level session attended by world leaders, policymakers, and industry experts. The discussions focused on the growing cooperation between India and France in the fields of technology and innovation.
PM Modi also mentioned that during India's G20 presidency, the group reached a consensus on using AI responsibly for everyone's benefit. He said that India leads in AI adoption and in developing legal and technological solutions for data privacy. He also pointed out that India has one of the largest AI talent pools in the world.
"India has successfully built a digital public infrastructure for over 1.4 billion people at a very low cost. It is built on an open and accessible network, with regulations and applications that modernise our economy, reform governance, and transform lives," PM Modi said. "Today, India leads in AI adoption and in developing legal and technological solutions for data privacy. We have one of the world's largest AI talent pools."
He further added, "We are at the beginning of the AI age, which will shape humanity's future."
Highlighting the partnership between India and France, PM Modi said both nations have worked together for years through initiatives like the International Solar Alliance to promote clean energy.
"India and France have worked together for years through initiatives like the International Solar Alliance to harness the power of the sun. As we now advance our partnership with AI, it is a natural step from sustainability to innovation to create a smarter and more responsible future. However, sustainable AI is not only about using clean energy. AI models should also be efficient in size, data usage, and resource needs. After all, the human brain can create poetry and design spaceships while using less power than most light bulbs," he said.
The Prime Minister also spoke about India's efforts to develop its large language model, reflecting the country's diversity. He stated that India is prepared to share its knowledge and expertise to ensure AI benefits everyone.
"We also have a unique public-private partnership model for pooling resources like computing power. This is made available to startups and researchers at an affordable cost. India is ready to share its experience and expertise to ensure that AI serves everyone for the greater good," PM Modi said.
He also addressed concerns about AI surpassing human intelligence, stating, "Some people worry that machines will become more intelligent than humans. But no one holds the key to our future other than us humans. That sense of responsibility must guide us."
