Allahabad, July 10: The Allahabad High Court today dismissed a petition seeking a ban on the release of Salman Khan-starrer "Bajrangi Bhaijaan", which is scheduled to hit the screens on the occasion of Eid next week, for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of "majority community."

A division bench, comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice Yashwant Verma, turned down the Public Interest Litigation of Chitrakoot-based social activist Anil Pradhan as soon as it came up for hearing.

Bajrangi Bhaijaan not to be banned

Pradhan had alleged that the movie contained scenes which could "hurt religious sentiments of the majority community". The court was of the view that "the petition does not contain any convincing reason why we should intervene in this matter".

Featuring actors like Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Kareena Kapoor besides Salman Khan, the movie tells the story of a young girl from Pakistan who strays into Indian territory and faces tremendous difficulties on account of her being speech-impaired.

Khan, for whom it would be his first release ever since his conviction in the hit-and-run case, plays a samaritan who takes it upon himself to help the child reunite with her family in the neighboring country.
