Pigeon Grounded at Independence Day Event, Sparks Call for Action in Chhattisgarh
A video from the Independence Day celebration in Chhattisgarh's Mungeli district has gone viral. It shows a pigeon, released by a police officer, failing to fly. This incident has led the officer to call for action against those responsible.

During the event, BJP MLA and former minister Punnulal Mohle, who was the chief guest, along with Mungeli Collector Rahul Deo and Superintendent of Police Girija Shankar Jaiswal, were given pigeons to release. The birds released by the MLA and the collector flew off successfully. However, the pigeon released by the SP fell to the ground.
Social Media Reactions
Social media user Sachin Gupta shared the video on his X handle, commenting, "Panchayat-3 was repeated in Chhattisgarh. SP sahab released pigeons on Independence Day. His pigeon fell down instead of flying. Watch the video." This comparison to a scene from season 3 of the web series Panchayat quickly caught attention online.
The SP wrote a letter to the Collector seeking disciplinary action. Official sources confirmed this on Tuesday. The letter stated that presenting a sick pigeon for flying during a major national festival like Independence Day was inappropriate.
Official Response
In his letter, the SP mentioned that if such an incident had occurred with the chief guest or the honourable MLA, it would have been more unpleasant. He emphasised that the officer responsible for this task did not fulfil their duty properly.
The bird is reported to be alive despite falling to the ground. The incident was widely shared on social media and other platforms, highlighting the mishap during the district-level programme.
The SP's letter stressed that such situations could have been avoided with proper care and responsibility. The demand for disciplinary action underscores the importance of ensuring all aspects of such events are handled meticulously.
This incident has sparked discussions about accountability and preparation during significant national events. The comparison to a popular web series added a layer of public interest and humour to the situation.
The video continues to circulate online, drawing various reactions from viewers. The focus remains on ensuring such incidents do not recur in future celebrations.
